Notes: Since 1986, photographer Clyde Butcher has shot large-scale black and white photographs of the Florida landscape to foster a deeper appreciation of nature. As a result of his artistic efforts to inspire conservation, Clyde received the Sierra Club's Ansel Adams Award for conservation photography in 2000.

With his photographs, Clyde’s passion is to show people the beauty of the Everglades ecosystem, as well as other precious landscapes throughout the world. He strongly believes that people must get involved to protect the Everglades and nature. Which led him to say,

"So many of us don't realize that we are the government. I like to call it 'the God of they,' as in, 'Oh, they'll fix it.' No, it's up to us."

Clyde’s call to action to be fully engaged citizens is difficult for many folks very cynical of government. A good response to that pessimism comes from Sam Daley-Harris, author of Reclaiming Our Democracy. Sam stated,

“If the government is broken, we are part of that brokenness and we must engage in healing ourselves too.”

As I like to say, ‘Each and everyone of us can change the world. We do this by the way we vote, the products we buy, and the attitudes we share with each other.'
