If left unchecked, this issue will swamp all other all other issues

Extend Quote by Ross Gelbspan:
"Climate change is not just another issue. It is the issue that, unchecked, will swamp all other issues. The only hope lies in all the countries of the world coming together around a common global project to rewire the world with clean energy. This is a path to peace--peace among people, and peace between people and nature."
Notes:
In his 2004 book Boiling Point, Ross Gelbspan's main argument is that left unchecked, climate change will swamp every other issue facing us today. To back up this claim, he offers a scathing critique of the fossil fuel industry, the U.S. government, the media and environmental activists who have all unwittingly worsened the crisis.
Even if Gelbspan wrote this book in 2004, he still offers solutions on climate change on his website, The Heat is On, that still may be helpful today in 2014.
His plan, called Rewiring the World with Clean Energy,
calls for three interacting strategies:
1. Industrial countries, like the U.S, must withdraw subsidies from fossil fuels and establish equivalent subsidies for clean non-carbon energy sources.
2. Industrial nations must partner together to create a large global fund -- perhaps through a small tax on global finance -- to transfer clean energy technologies to developing countries.
3. Nations around the world must come to an agreement for a progressively more stringent Fossil Fuel Efficiency Standard that rises by 5 percent per year.
We don't have time to waste to solve climate change. As Gelbspan states towards the beginning of his video on the website:
"We are standing at the threshold of runaway climate change. And, the coming disruptions, which most scientists say are inevitable, will either lead us into a future of totalitarianism or into a new and unprecedented era of cooperation."
