Notes:

During this interview political analyst and TV host Lawrence O’Donnell points that GOP Presidential nominee Donald Trump is running for President denying the existence of climate change. At the same time, businessman Donald Trump has petitioned the Irish Government to allow him to pay build a sea wall to protect a golf course bearing his name from sea level rise caused by climate change. O’Donnell then asked GOP former Rep. Bob Inglis from South Carolina to respond.

Bob Inglis said:

“It’s like me hearing you say, ‘you’re going ahead, and I say, ‘Yeah! Keep going! Petal to the metal!’ when I know that the bridge is out on the road ahead. It is quite diabolical to not give a warning to people.

The smart money is already moving on climate change. Donald Trump is apparently part of that smart money, but he tells the crowds, amplifying what they are hearing from other sources: ‘The bridge isn’t out. Petal to the metal!’”

Lawrence O’Donnell then asked Bob Inglis to respond to the Donald Trump statement that foreign bureaucrats would control the U.S. because of the 2015 U.N. Paris climate agreement.

Bob Inglis replied:

“Of course that is completely incorrect. It’s not rational what he says. When people like me respond and try to make sense of it, the joke is sort of on us. It really is a joke. It’s not for real. He says these things that are simply not correct. But, those of us who try to respond rationally. I think the joke is on us.“

O’Donnell then questioned Bob Inglis if climate denial is going to continue to be the way it is for the future of the Republican with statements like that made by Donald Trump.

Bob Inglis responded,

“No I don’t think so. I think that Donald Trump is about to fly the Grumpy Old Party into the mountainside. And, out of the ashes of the plane crash may come the Grand Opportunity Party.

That party will be very different. It will be a movement of people who really do believe in the power of free enterprise to solve challenges and who really to stick to principles. They figure out ideas and follow those ideas, rather than just saying whatever comes to mind. And having, like I say, the rest of us trying to treat it seriously, but when we do that, the joke (of Donald Trump) really is on us.”
